Known at the "Godfather of House," Colonel Abrams performed frequently at the famous Paradise Garage in New Jersey, which gave garage music its name. His "Trapped" went gold in the U.K. In addition to his own recordings on Streetwise, MCA and independent labels, samples of his vocals appear on many bootleg remix recordings. This is where “Never Be” started life. 01) Layabouts Vocal Mix (mp3 file size; 2.76mb) After experimenting with an accapella of an old colonel abrams track “they’ll never be no one like you” over the top of one of there original baking tracks, the layabouts gave birth to “Never be”. After a small promotional run the feedback was immense! So very kindly the colonel himself gave us his blessing to give the track a full release on Healthy!. We loved this tune so much from 2005 and we were chuffed to have a go at bringing it into 2007 with a more pumped up dance floor vibe. The original was so hot in terms of music and arrangement, we decided to go more dancefloor in terms of the musical direction. I hope you like it! And it was a pleasure for us to have a go on remixing such a killer vocal!

We were really excited to remix this project for Deepswing and Xavier, having been massive fans of their work since the Danny Rampling Golden Years, in particular, Taking Me Higher, which still brings goosepimples to the neck! 01) Layabouts Old Skool Anthem Mix (mp3 file size; 4.41mb) This is out now on vinyl, and we were really pleased to see this charting at number 13 in the M8 magazine hype chart (February 2007)
In the Pipeline Currently working on some orginal bits and pieces, with a full vocal production in the pipeline, and also some more dubbier experimental sounds.
